Ingvar! A Musical Furniture Saga is having its World Premiere in English this summer right here in Seattle. This musical, performed entirely through song with no spoken dialogue, is an absurd, satirical look at the life and times of Ingvar Kamprad, who founded IKEA at the age of seventeen and became the 8th richest man on Earth by the time of his death at 91 in 2018.
On Monday August 11, we are organizing an outing with interested members to see the show together. Thanks to Latitude Theatre, club members can enjoy a 40% discount on tickets using the code: SVERIGE. Tickets can be found at: www.latitudetheatre.org
The story focuses on Ingvar Kamprad’s journey from being the child of an immigrant father to becoming a fixture in Swedish (and worldwide) culture. The action begins just moments after a disastrous crash of the Stockholm Stock Exchange, where a group of brokers, watching their now destroyed portfolios, try to look for hope by asking the question “What would Ingvar do?” The almost mythical story is acted out in ridiculous costumes, and yes, actors will be dressed as pieces of flat-pack furniture, as well as Swedish meatballs, Pippi Longstocking and even members of ABBA!
We are thrilled to be some of the first people in the world to see this exciting new production and we hope you join us on Monday August 11! Don’t miss out on this opportunity - secure your tickets soon!
The show starts at 7:30. For those who wish, we plan to meet here at the Club to carpool or bus together (meeting time TBD).
